A category defined by more than a number

Extra virgin olive oil is a virgin oil category defined through a combination of chemical and sensory characteristics. The International Olive Council sets a free acidity limit of 0.8 grams per 100 grams, expressed as oleic acid, together with other category requirements. Acidity alone does not establish extra virgin status.

A buying specification should therefore identify the category and the evidence required for the proposed lot. A photograph, a rich colour or a descriptive name cannot stand in for the appropriate quality information.

Choose for the way your business will use it

A retailer may prioritise the intended shelf position and bottle presentation. A restaurant may begin with flavour in a particular dish. A food brand may need an agreed profile for a recipe. Explain your application so the enquiry addresses the product you actually need.

Do not assume every extra virgin oil has the same intensity or sensory profile. If a sample is important to your evaluation, request a discussion of sample availability and an agreed evaluation process.

Prepare a focused extra virgin enquiry

Include your estimated quantity and unit, preferred presentation, destination country and city or port. Add any required analyses, quality criteria, label language and target purchasing frequency. Identify which requirements are essential and which are flexible.

Tunisian Olive can review your brief and discuss what may be proposed. Formats, order quantities, samples, lead times and availability require confirmation. Prices are provided by quotation, with the agreed specification and commercial conditions stated in writing.
