Canada: begin with the importer and AIRS

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency recommends a step-by-step approach to food imports. Use the Automated Import Reference System, AIRS, with the product, Tunisian origin, destination and intended use to identify applicable requirements. Check the need for a Safe Food for Canadians licence for the importing activity.

The importer should also review preventive controls, traceability and labelling requirements for the actual product and business. Retail labels commonly need a bilingual review, but the applicable rules and any exceptions must be assessed rather than assumed. Share the Canadian province and city or entry point in your enquiry.

United States: plan the FDA responsibilities

FDA guidance explains the role of food facility registration and prior notice for imported food, subject to applicable rules and exemptions. Identify which facilities and parties are involved in the transaction before shipment. A registration is not an FDA endorsement or product approval.

Determine the FSVP importer and the applicable foreign supplier verification responsibilities. This role should not be casually assumed to be the same as a customs broker or another party. Review the product specification, required records and US labelling with the responsible importer.

Bring the destination into the quotation

Specify Canada or the United States, the delivery city or port, oil category, bulk or bottled preference, estimated quantity and purchasing frequency. Explain who will handle import clearance and which documents your business needs to review.

These are target markets for business enquiries, not claims of an existing shipping history. Tunisian Olive confirms product and commercial possibilities individually. Import requirements, duties, food compliance and the document set should be verified with the responsible authority and the importer for the project.
